>> that dryness is causing major concern for firefighters, but not the only issue as a red flag warning and a lightning strike hits in the bay area. good evening, even. thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler in for ama dates. it is clear right now over the bay area, but thunderstorms will soon be moving in. let's head to abc7 news meteorologist leigh glaser for a first check on weather and live doppler 7hd. >> yeah, and we are definitely going to see some big changes weather wise the first part of the workweek. we have a few high and midlevel clouds and some along the coast. but the thundershowers are very close to the bay area.

we are picking them up in south leak tahoe. and -- lake tahoe. and check out what has developed south of baker field. very heavy showers and isolated severe thunderstorms. this one right there is getting ready to develop near bakersfield with numerous lightning strikes. folks, get ready for thunderstorms developing and that has definitely prompted a red flag warning beginning tonight through wednesday. that looks like the highest potential for the bay area to see isolated thunderstorms will be monday night and tuesday. we will get to that forecast coming up in a little bit. >> there are more than a dozen fires burning right now in northern california. as leigh mentioned with the red flag warning and thunderstorms, firefighters are bracing for more this week. abc7 news reporter lilian kim is live tonight with the latest on this developing story. good evening, lilian. >> carolyn, firefighters here in alameda county are on high alert. they received a bulletin

tonight about the weather conditions heading this way. cal firecrews are prepared for what could be a very busy couple of days. they have seen called in firefighters from other parts of the state. with the threat of dry lightning in the bay area, no one is taking any chances. >> we bring engines wherever we have the fire threat. we don't have a threat all over the state. so we bring those resources and we move them. it is like chess pieces. we move them in. >> the fire has taken a toll outside the bay area. more than 5,000 firefighters have been deployed to 10 major wildfires. in boutte county, southeast of oroville, at least 700 structures are threatened. in the tahoere has grown the fire has grown to 13,000 acres. the concern here at home is similar to elsewhere, extremely dry fuel allowing poe potential fleams to spread fast. firefighters say that on top of dry lightning is pretty much their worst nightmare. >> lightning does not just

land on the side of the road. it lands in the middle no where. we have to hike into it and use airy sources to get to it. >> the dangerous saw scenario and one cal fire says is a real possibility. lilian kim, abc news. >> the fire danger is not just here in california. coming up later this hour, the fire is threatening hundreds of homes all over the nation. new details tonight. helmet camera video shot by a firefighter of the asiana crash is stirring up new controversy. the camera shot footage that has been instrumental in the investigation into the death of a young girl who died after being run over. but now san francisco fire officials say no more helmet cameras. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana is live with the details. a lot of debate on this one, on, sergio. >> carolyn, members of the san francisco fire department have told us that the helmet cam video is a great teaching tool and last month the i team

revealed that the helmet cam video is an integral part of the investigation of the crash of asiana214. but no one is allowed to shoot video without her express permission. the i-team uncover eddie tails about how chinese student yeah ming wuan died. video shot by a firefighter wearing a helmet-mounted camera has been instrumental in the on going investigation. but the chief now says that video is a violation of department policy. >> just because we are glad to have the video footage doesn't change the fact that our policy is that nobody is allowed to videotape anything and anytime without the permission of the fire chief. >> the fire chief says the policy isment to protect the privacy of patients and the firecrew members. the san francisco chronicle published pictures from the helmet cam worn by mark

johnson. >> they are not supposed to have recording devices in use at this time in conjunction with the policy of 2009. >> they commanded the response and he has been interviewed about the violation of policy. no disciplinary action has been taken yet. fellow battalion chief kevin smith is defending johnson saying this policy was initially meant to restrict recordings inside the fire houses. >> there is no existing policy that prevents individuals from wearing helmet cams and videotaping incidents outside of the fire house. >> he is disappointed because he says helmet cam video is a great teaching tool. abc7 news. >> a meeting will be held tomorrow night to talk about the future of fire services in contra costa county. the first of three meetings will be held at the pittsburgh public library at 6:30 p.m. because of budget problems, the contra costa fire department has cut seven

engine companies in the past two years. five bay area people have been arrested on suspicion of kid p thatting in southern california. riverside county sheriff deputies say an 18-year-old woman escaped on friday and called for help from a hotel in morino valley. she told deputies she was kidnapped in compton a day earlier by a woman and four men. she said her abductors told her they were going to force her into prostitution. the suspects are from here in the bay area, gilroy and san jose. street violence took three lives this weekend in oakland. the trouble began when two people were shot to death and two others were seriously wounded on 105th avenue. four people went to the hospital after gunfire erupted on telegraph avenue downtown yesterday afn. yesterday afternoon. another person died after a shooting at mcarthur boulevard.

this car crashed during that shooting at mcarthur and 73rd. a man suffered a gunshot wound and a four-year-old child was cut by shattered glass in that shooting. the driver of a ford pick up involved in a hit and run accident that killed a man in san jose remains on the loose tonight. ashes from police flares are still visible near harriet avenue. the accident happened last night before 9:00. authorities say the area is poorly lit and does not have crosswalks. the pick up is described as a late model ford with over sized tires, light in color with front end damage. a homeowner faces costlypairs ar repairs after a hit and run driver plowed into her house near petaluma. you can see the mess that driver caused around 2:30 this morning. the pick up truck made it into the living room and even toppled a wall inside the house. the homeown unharmed unharmed. the chp has not caught up with that driver yet.

another mishap today for san francisco's famed cable cars. a muni operator broke his ankle after he applied the emergency brake on an out of service car. it happened along hyde street and jackson street. muni has not said why the operator pulled the emergency brake. this after a woman riding a cable car suffered minor injuries yesterday after another cable car struck a vehicle in north beach. we have new details on the contract rejected by ac transit workers by more than a two to one margin workers voted thumbs down on a deal that gave them a nearly 10% raise and improved health and safety conditions. negotiators reached the tbrement with management -- the agreement with management 12 days ago to avoid a strike. the negotiating committee is discussing what to do next. and the third of an ac transit strike comes as ba have n woulders have not agreed to a new contract. a jj ordered a 60-day cooling

off period last weekend. it delayed the possibility of another strike until october. both sides last met on august 10th. bart officials and union leaders say they remain far apart on many issues including pay and benefits. and a reminder now. the bay bridge will close at the end of the month and into september. it will shutdown august 28th through labor day weekend. the six days will allow crews to connect the new eastern span of the bridge to the existing roadway on tuesday, september 3rd, 5:00 a.m. is the grand reopening. we have new pictures tonight of the emergency response to a 25-year-old man who fell 100 feet off a cliff in half moon bay. the fall happened near the the18th hole of the half moon bay golf course. there are plenty of signs warning of unstable ground.

fire officials aren't sure why the man fell shortly after 2:00 this afternoon. >> the cliff itself was pretty much vertical. it was a fall straight from the top to the bottom. >> and can you elaborate on the injuries ? >> just that there were major injuries. our paramedic was down there with the victim. >> he was airlifted to stanford hospital and they are not sure if the man was a guest, but they have confirmed that he is not from the area. still to come on abc7 news, a musician attacked on stage takes his fight to the courtroom. we'll hear who he is suing and why. and the surprising new study and the major household appliance that actually uses less energy than your phone. and later it is the number one movie at the box office this weekend. coming up, we'll take you inside the white house with one man who worked there for more than 50 years.

tonight of a volcano erupting in japan. it is near the city in southwestern japan. ash turned day into night and making visibility a problem. you saw cars there covered with a layer of ash. people used surgical masks and umbrellas to try to stay safe. he is vowing his forces will not tolerate anymore violence. this comes after about 900 people have died in recent clashes. between supporters of ousted president mohamed morsi and security forces at least 36 members of the muslim brotherhood died today during a riot as they were being moved to a prison. one report described it as an attempted jail break. the bay area egyptians called for peace at the united nations plaza in san san

francisco. they are urging them to stop giving military aide to egypt. lester chambers plans to sue the city of hey ready what after he was attacked while performing on stage. this video from fuse news captured the attack during a blues festival last month. watch a woman jumping on stage moments after chambers dedicated a song to the family of florida teenager trayvon martin. chambers and his lawyer, john burris talked about the attack on kgo radio. >> what did i start when i started to upset this woman in this way and in this manner. >> we hope the criminal justice system works in an effective and efficient way and she is convicted and properly punished. >> she now faces felony elder abuse and assault charges.

chamber and his attorney want hate crime charges added. we should learn more tomorrow about the deadly limo fire on the san mateo bridge. the limo caught fire in may killing five of the 10 women passengers. the officials say the investigation is over and they will release the details to the public tomorrow. part of 880 in san leandro will shutdown in less than an hour overnight. cal trans will close all lanes on 880 at davis street. the closure will midnight until 4:00 a.m. traffic will be disco verted -- will be diverted off the off-ramp and directed back to the freeway at the davis street on-ramp. this is due to the building of a new bridge over the freeway. your iphone may be a major energy guzzler. a new study says iphones burn through more energy than a midsized refrigerator and a new one at that. it uses 161 kill kilowatt

hours a year and a frige is 322. the majority of the energy is used to power data centers responsible for the wireless connections and data streaming that bring your device to life. let's get a check of the accu-weather forecast. it is a little on the strange siorologist here is meteorologist leigh glaser. >> we typically get these isolated thunderstorms as the monsoonal moisture starts to feed in from the southwest. it is a little unusual from the bay area. we are showing you the high and midlevel clouds. it is moving through the golden gate bridge with reduced visibilities there. you can see most of the activity is still well to the south and to the east of the bay area. isolated thunderstorms continue to rotate from the south and up toward the lake tahoe area right now. the thunderstorms should start to die down a little later on this evening. highs today, boy, it was hot

inland. livermore up as much as 15 dries from your high -- 15 degrees from your high of yesterday. 98 in antioch today and 9 -- 95 in san rafael and san francisco. 91 today in san jose. you can see a live shot here from the rooftop cam. we are holding some of the heat in san francisco and 74 in san jose. los gatos is 71 degrees. we are seeing mainly clear skies because the low cloudiness is moving through the gate now. check out fairfield and concord. still mild to warm at 77 degrees. livermore right now, you are touching at 80. here is a look at our forecast highlights. this is a look at the golden gate bridge with some reduced visibilities there. a slight chance of a thunderstorm overnight tonight. the red flag warning up tonight through wednesday and it is mainly because of the possibility of the dry light mig strikes. dry lightning strikes and chance through midweek. we have a cutoff low to the

south of the bay area. you can pretty much see the subtropical moisture feeding from the south and then starting to curve back toward the west because of the counter clockwise spin. the low is sitting off the coast. here is a better shot for you. here is the low just twisting. just in the last few frames we notice that some of the monsoonal moisture has started to shift a little bit closer to the san francisco bay area. it looks like it will be monday night and off and on throughout the day on tuesday where we could possibly get our best chance of seeing some isolated thunderstorms. they will be isolated. not everyone will see one, and they will not be widespread. monday 5:00 a.m., as you get out the door, high and midlevel clouds. we will pretty much keep it that way through monday evening, and then about 11:00, 12:00, tuesday 5:00 a.m. looking good. and they will be scathey will b. i don't think this forecast model handles this well.

they did a cat scan of my kidneys, no more kidney stones. that's the good news. violent weekend in oakland has left three people dead, seven others wounded in a string of shootings that began on friday evening and continued through last night. san francisco's fire chief has issued an order that firefighters cannot wear cameras any who are while working. this comes after a helmet cam worn by a battalion chief uncovered major details in the death of a survivor of the asiana airlines crash. an airport fire truck hit the girl and killed her. as temperatures heat up, the wildfire danger rises throughout northern california. the forecast also calls for dry lightning in the bay area. developing news, firefighters are battling dozens of wildfires across the west. hundreds of homes have been evacuated in boutte county in northern california, but the biggest fires right now are raging in idaho. abc news reporter reports on the all out battle to bring those fires under control.

oakland. the giants are not thinking of the playoffs, but they add chance for a sweep of the marlins. unit her pence had not hit a homerun since july 13th, but he gets this two-run blast that travels some 459 feet. it goes back and forth in the fifth. bumgarner throws a wild pitch and hector sanchez can't locate it and it allows solano to score from second. marlins are on top 4-3. in the seventh and san francisco retakes the lead and sanchez doubles down the line. pablo sandoval who recently lost 22 pounds races home from first to give san francisco a 5-4 advantage. it wouldn't last for long. andre torres can't come up with this ball off the bat of mathis. ed lucas scores, but proves to be the game winner. 6-5 was the final. the giants 68th loss of the season and it matches last year's total. >> well, stanford gets most of the attention and san jose
